Frequently Asked Questions

1. I received an A5 size QR card with an access code - how can I order my photos?

If you have received a QR card with a personal access code, ensure that your phone has internet access and use your camera to go to the QR code OR (again ensuring that you are online) enter the web address provided on your QR card and enter your access code or codes and click on "Open Album." Note, if you have multiple access codes for your children's albums you can enter them all on this login screen for easy access to your albums.

2. Where can I see the status of my order?

The easiest way is to click the link within your order confirmation email. Alternatively, you can log in with the password and email address you received via email. Once you’ve logged in, your order details can be found under "My Account".

3. How long will the delivery take?

The delivery time depends on the payment, the products you’ve ordered and delivery method. The payment must be confirmed before your order can be processed. Orders which include free shipping to schools are processed in batch up to 10 business days after the batch order deadline. Delivery time may also vary depending on the type of products ordered.

4. Is the logo (watermark) going to be removed from the image?

Of course! The watermark is only used to protect our work against illegal copying.

5. What is the quality of prints, etc.?

Our images are 'edited for print' - by this we mean that the photographer will edit your images on their screen which has been calibrated to match our professional print lab printers. This means when you order prints through Unscripted Portraits, your prints will be the same as when viewed within your online Gallery. However, as we have no control on which device you are viewing your digital images on or which supplier you may use to go on and print your images, please be aware of the following: For digitals only, As the 'habit' is that people will have their brightness on their phones and laptops turned up bright...digital images may appear overexposed, however simply turn down the brightness on your device to view the images as they were edited! As for printing with alternate suppliers - many high street prints..print darker than pro lab printers, please consider this when deciding which print lab to use if printing your images.

6. Can I crop the images?

Yes. You will find this option within the basket. If you crop the image, an enlargement of the selected area is created. Look for the stars which indicate whether the photo's resolution is sufficient for the enlargement.

Want to know more about cropping, check out our handy 'crop guide' on our website:

7. I very rarely order online - how can I order my photos here?

Select a photo that you like from your album and click "Order photo.” Then select the product of your choice, enter the desired quantity and click on "Add to basket". When you have placed all of the photos you like into your shopping cart, click "Basket" on the top right of the screen and follow the instructions.

8. Why do you select some photos in black and white and others in colour?

Claire (owner and photographer of Unscripted) will select and curate photos which work best for the album which may be in either black and white or colour. It does depend on the natural light at the time which is all part of that beautiful natural feel however rather than limit the album to fewer poses to offer each image in black and white and colour we have chosen to provide more variety so that families have a greater selection within their album... we appreciate that it's such a personal choice which is why there is an option for alternative format images as a separate chargeable request.

9. I would like one or more of my album photos in an alternative format, how do I do this?

If there are photos you’d like added to your online album in an alternative format, there is a small charge for this service, at £8 per image. This covers Claire’s (photographer) time to retrieve the image, hand edit it and add it to your online album.

If you’d like to go ahead with any additional images, please contact us via email, provide the image references, and I’ll raise an invoice for a separate BAC payment. Once complete and Claire has done her magic, we’ll let you know and then you can proceed with your online purchase.

10. Why does each album vary in terms of images delivered?

Our school portrait service commits to a minimum of 5 images per album which should be seen as the benchmark for all albums in terms of the number of images delivered. Whilst the number of images delivered is unlimited, it is only limited by our 1-2 minutes per photo session and also how the child responds during the session. We do our absolute best to try and get the best from your child during the session but children are children and not performing monkeys so some may not 'feel' the session and that's okay. Rather than make children feel uncomfortable or pressured, we'd rather leave it and try again the next session..the child will be older and more relaxed. So we ask for you not to compare the value of your album against another album, each child is individual and each album is unique for that child.

11. Traditional vs Contemporary Portrait Style, whats the difference?

We always try to provide a wide variety of images, including a mix of traditional portrait photos which will give you that portrait 'in uniform' but it's about delivering character portraits. Portraits showcasing the very best of children, honest, relaxed and beautiful. Of course, we'll always try for a smile but a smile does not always make the photo. Ultimately, we want children to feel comfortable and this will always be the priority. Children are individuals and how they feel on the day matters. Not all children are confident or 'out there', some are shy and pensive. So whilst we don't promise perfect smiley photos, we do promise beautiful photos and always recognisable.

As part of our variety of photos offered, we'll always try to get some beautiful close-ups so we can frame those big features, eyes, eyelashes, dimples, freckles and cheeky smiles. But to achieve those close-ups, part of the head will always be out of the frame as we zoom in and get in close. So, we hope you love these big close-ups but if you don't, there will always be a range of alternative photos to select from.

12. Why should I pay for beauty editing?

Your School and Nursery staff do their best when preparing the children for their photo session, aiming to address mud and pen marks, snotty noses, unkempt hair and dirty uniforms however photo day is a fast-paced day and with the best will in the world, not all marks and perceived imperfections are captured or able to be addressed. Whilst there is often a mad search for 'spare' uniform to avoid that lunch stain and often mad hair after break time hair can only be smoothed into position by hand in the absence of a hairbrush and/or restrictions on using the same hair brush on children! So Photographers will also do their best to capture those obvious marks, there are times that have to photograph ‘as is’ presented which is why we promise beautiful photos, not perfect photos, within our 1-2 minute portrait session.

If we did offer the ‘perfect’ photo, we’d spend a lot more time editing and simply would not be able to offer the competitive pricing we do. We at Unscripted also quite like the Unscripted look as those seemingly imperfect photos also tell their own story..the real story.

13. Why should I order my prints through Unscripted?

We recognise that photo printing facilities are available cheaper in some high street retailers, but just be aware that the print and paper used when printing does matter and affects the quality of colours and depth of the photo so we’d always recommend using a professional print lab to get the best results.
